• !Here's Way To Makhachev vs Poirier Live Streams On TV Channel 01 June {2024}

After a week off, the UFC opens the month of June with a 12-fight card known as UFC 302, headlined by a lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier in the main event.

Makhachev (25-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) is making his third defense of his lightweight strap but his first against a true lightweight contender. Makhachev won the title against then-champion Charles Oliveira (34-10 MMA, 22-10 UFC, 1 NC) at UFC 280 in Oct. 2022 before he was thrust into back-to-back fights with then-featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (26-4 MMA, 13-3 UFC).

Makhachev would win both fights. The first came at UFC 284 in Volkanovski's home country of Australia. The fight was a razor-close split decision that went Makhachev's way, leaving many fans and MMA pundits wondering what a rematch would look like.

That question would be answered in Oct. 2023 when Volkanovski replaced Oliveira ahead of UFC 294 on less than two weeks' notice. Makhachev needed less than a round to dispatch Volkanovski and successfully defend his belt again.

Due to a loss from Justin Gaethje (25-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) in the final seconds against Max Holloway (28-7 MMA, 22-7 UFC) at UFC 300, the UFC opted to give Poirier (30-8 MMA, 22-7 UFC) his third crack at claiming lightweight gold despite his 2-2 record across his last four outings, most recently knocking out Benoit Saint-Denis (13-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at UFC 299. Gaethje had previously knocked out Poirier at UFC 291 to win his then-'BMF' title, but it wasn't enough for another title fight opportunity.

Poirier has been open about the possibility of retirement in several pre-fight interviews, a decision that could significantly alter the landscape of the lightweight division. However, no hasty choices have been made, leaving fans and pundits alike in suspense.

The card also features a stellar co-main event between Sean Strickland (28-6 MMA, 15-6 UFC), the former UFC middleweight champion, taking on Paulo Costa (14-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC), and many notable undercard bouts.

Here is everything you need to know about UFC 302, including TV and streaming options for the event and the entire bout order ahead of Saturday night.

Win or lose, Dustin Poirier might step into the Octagon for the last time on Saturday when he challenges lightweight king Islam Makhachev for the title in the main event of UFC 302. Their scheduled five-round battle will top the main UFC 302 fight card starting at 10 p.m. ET from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The No. 4-ranked Poirier is one of the UFC's most celebrated active icons. He has already made 30 appearances for the promotion and is a former interim champion who has also challenged twice for the undisputed belt. Ever since this fight for UFC 302 was announced, Poirier reiterated that this could be his last bout and didn't back off that sentiment this week. Meanwhile, Makhachev is looking to make the third successful defense of his belt.

Makhachev is a -625 favorite (risk $625 to win $100), while Poirier is a +450 underdog in the latest UFC 302: Makhachev vs. Poirier odds. In the co-main event, former middleweight champion Sean Strickland (-240) meets rugged brawler Paulo Costa (+200). Before locking in your picks for UFC 302: Makhachev vs. Poirier, make sure you see the MMA predictions and betting advice from SportsLine expert Daniel Vithlani.

From breaking down film and following fighters and their camps closely, to tracking sharp action and betting market signals, Vithlani covers the breadth of the MMA betting landscape top to bottom. He also trains amateur boxers and speaks regularly with MMA fighters to understand the sport's nuances.

Vithlani made his SportsLine debut in January 2023 and swept the main card for UFC 283 with a 5-0 record and has been a consistent winner ever since. Over the past 11 UFC pay-per-view events, Vithlani has gone 7-4 on main-event picks and his main-card selections in that span have netted his followers a profit of more than $1,200.

His highlights include calling an upset for Sean O'Malley (+210) against Aljamain Sterling (-250) at UFC 292 as part of a 4-1 main card and his UFC 299 winners included underdog selections on Poirier (+190) against Saint Denis (-230) and Michael Page (+110) against Kevin Holland (-130). Anyone who has followed him has seen massive returns.

Now, with UFC 302: Makhachev vs. Poirier on deck, Vithlani has studied the card from top to bottom and released his top selections. You can only see those picks at SportsLine.

UFC 302: Makhachev vs. Poirier preview
Makhachev (25-1) is currently No. 1 in the UFC's pound-for-pound fighter rankings. He hasn't lost in nearly nine years and brings a 13-fight winning streak into Saturday's UFC 302 main event. However, his star power thus far has been relatively limited for a fighter who appears to have the potential to be one of the promotion's more dominant champions in recent memory.

This is in large part because Makhachev keeps a modest public profile, but also has presented a somewhat abrasive disposition toward fellow fighters and media. Even so, even his most ardent critics can't deny that Makhachev has earned his status as an elite UFC champion.

The 32-year-old Dagestan native is a well-known prodigy of former undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is Makhachev's primary coach and mentor.

Makhachev is a heavy favorite against Poirier (30-8-1), the 11-year UFC veteran who is one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster. Poirier's extensive resume includes two knockout wins over Conor McGregor, two wins over former featherweight champion Max Holloway and a 1-1 split with Justin Gaethje.

However, his two title challenges resulted in submission losses to Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira. Even so, his comeback win against the highly regarded prospect Saint Denis, who closed as greater than a 2/1 favorite, showed that the 35-year-old Louisiana native is still among the UFC's elite. You can see more UFC 302 picks at SportsLine.

    Top UFC 302 predictions
We'll share one of Vithlani's UFC 302 selections here:  He is siding with Alex Morono (-235) to get his hand raised against Niko Price (+195) in a battle of veteran welterweights.

This is a rematch from nearly seven years ago in which the power-punching Price landed a second-round TKO, only to have the result overturned to a no-contest because of a positive drug test.

Morono (24-9-2) has become known for his technical proficiency and ability to exploit his opponent's weaknesses. The 33-year-old Texan has never lost back-to-back fights in his MMA career, though he is 2-2 in his last four following a four-fight winning streak.

Price is a former champion in the Fight Time promotion who joined the UFC with an undefeated record but has had mixed results against world-class opponents while becoming a fan favorite because of his reckless, defense-optional style. The 34-year-old Florida native has just one win in his last six appearances.

UFC 302 will culminate in a lightweight title clash between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier this evening, as the latter prepares for what could be his final fight.

Poirier has teased that he may retire after Saturday’s main event – win or lose – as he looks to become undisputed champion at the third and final time of asking. The fan favourite held the interim lightweight belt in 2019 but failed to unify the gold against Khabib Nurmagomedov, who submitted Poirier – just as Charles Oliveira did in a 2021 title fight.

Since then, Khabib’s protege Makhachev has emerged as the UFC’s pound-for-pound No 1 fighter, submitting Oliveira to win the lightweight belt in 2022 before retaining it twice in 2023. Both of the Russian’s title defences came against then-featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski, whom Makhachev outpointed in February and knocked out in October.

In tonight’s five-round co-main event, Sean Strickland aims to bounce back from his middleweight title loss in January, facing former No 1 contender Paulo Costa.

UFC is back in the Northeast this weekend for UFC 302. The promotion heads to Newark, New Jersey for its latest PPV offering featuring a lightweight title bout in the main event between champion Islam Makhachev and fan-favorite Dustin Poirier. It's the first time UFC is back in the region on PPV since UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden in November and first time back in New Jersey since a Fight Night event in March in Atlantic City.

    UFC 302 info
    Date: June 1
Location: Prudential Center -- Newark, New Jersey
Start time: 10 p.m. ET (Main card)
    How to watch: ESPN+ PPV

Makhachev, a disciple of Khabib Nurmagomedov, looks to continue his impressive reign while building on a pound-for-pound legacy. The native of Dagestan, Russia, has won 13 in a row since a stunning knockout loss to Adriano Martins in 2015. He's already beaten some of the top names in the sport, like Alexander Volkanovski (twice), Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan. Adding Poirier to that list could make this already impressive resume that much stronger.

Poirier, meanwhile, fights for the belt after a Round 2 knockout of Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299. Poirier (30-8, 1 NC) looks to finally become champion after falling short against Khabib Nurmagomedov, Makhachev's mentor and coach, in 2019 and Oliveira in 2021. "The Diamond" already has a Hall of Fame worthy resume, but continues to lack that crowning achievement of undisputed gold.

"The main stage spotlight feels the same but my mental space feels different... I have to do it this time because I'm not going to get another chance. It's now or never," Poirier told CBS Sports this week. "But I'm in a good mental spot. I'm grateful and starting to be content with my career and my legacy. I'm just in a good spot. I'm ready to fight. I feel like that's a position for me mentally that I'm very dangerous in."

The undercard features an interesting middleweight showdown that could produce a title challenger later this year when Sean Strickland takes on Paulo Costa. Strickland, the former titleholder, is coming off a tough split decision loss to Dricus du Plessis to drop the title. Costa, meanwhile, has lost three of his last four, but all against top contenders in the division. Plus, the undercard also features the return of Kevin Holland at welterweight as he looks to get back on track. And veterans Alex Morono and Niko Price are also set to battle it out in the welterweight division.

  • Allies must maintain support to Ukraine

Speaking after the Council, the Secretary General said that NATO will take a greater coordination role in providing equipment and training to Ukraine, saying this would “provide more predictability for Kyiv and address both immediate and longer-term needs.” He highlighted the fact “practically all military aid to Ukraine – 99 percent – comes from NATO Allies” affirming it made sense that NATO should play “a greater role” in these efforts.  The Secretary General has also proposed a multi-year financial pledge for Ukraine.

“Russia must understand that it cannot wait us out,” the Secretary General said highlighting the fact that since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, “Allies have provided approximately 40 billion euros worth of military aid to Ukraine each year.” Mr Stoltenberg emphasised that, in order to accelerate the end of the war, NATO members must maintain “at least” current levels of support to Ukraine “for as long as necessary.”
